Deerhound Club Limited Show 2012 Critique

Bitches

Firstly I would like to thank the Committee for giving me the honour to judge this excellent show, and secondly to my hardworking stewards. Most bitches were in good condition, but rear action was poor in a lot of exhibits.

PUPPY BITCH (0)

JUNIOR BITCH (3) (0)

1. O’BRIEN & QUINN’S ARACETA CORDELIA

Light grey 17 month bitch with correct harsh coat, nice head with dark eye and good ears. Nice front angulation, forechest & pasterns. Good depth & spring of rib, bend of stifle with broad hindquarters. Best mover in this class, retaining top line with good front & rear extension.

2. ELLESE’S KILBOURNE UNITY

Just over 12 months old and not the maturity of 1. Feminine bitch with lovely head. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulder but could be longer in upper arm. Nice width throughout. Depth OK, good bend of stifle & fallaway. Moved well but unlucky to meet my winner today.

3. SPRING-ARNOLD’S GENTIEHUN ALICE SPRINGS

SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH (3) (1)

1. KEELING’S CLAONAIGLEN EHERVIE

Nice bitch with good head, dark eyes and small ears. Adequate forechest with good depth, lovely spring of rib and width all through. Good pasterns and bend of stifle. Moved well but needs to settle standing.

2. SPRING-ARNOLD’S GENTIEHUN ALICE SPRINGS

Feminine 13 month bitch with a very attractive head. Good neck into well laid shoulder. Bit upright in upper arm, but well angled pasterns & tight feet. Needs to drop in brisket. Nice rear angulations, just a bit fine throughout. Moved well.

SPECIAL YEARLING BITCH (3) (1)

1. BONDS’S REGALFLIGHT CIVET (RBB)

Really nice workmanlike, well bodied, 18 month bitch with harsh dark coat. Lovely head, strong neck into well laid shoulders. Good pasterns, but feet could be tighter. Super depth, spring of rib and width with lovely front & rear angulation. Correct rise over loin. Moved very well, covering the ground with her powerful hindquarters.

2. HELPS’S BEARDSWOOD QUINTESSENCE

Pretty 19 month bitch with dark eyes and well set on ears. Nice front angulation with good forechest, flat bone, good pasterns and tight feet. Good depth & spring of rib. Fair bend of stifle & rather high in the hock which caused her to move rather close behind.

UNDERGRADUATE BITCH (5) (2)

1. KEELING’S CLAONAIGLEN EHERVIE

2. BUCKLEY’S PYEFLEET SPIRIT OF SARAH

Good head with dark eye, ears ok. Nice front angulation with lovely tight feet. Adequate depth but good spring of rib. Fair bend of stifle but rather high in the hock. Needs to fill out and I hope this comes with maturity. Moved nicely.

3. POST GRADUATE BITCH (4) (1)

1. GIRLINGS’S PYEFLEET SCRUMPIE

Workmanlike bitch of nice type with good bone and harsh coat. Lovely head, lightish eye, small ears. Strong neck into good shoulder placement. Good forechest & pastern, flat bone, but feet could be better. Depth OK but well sprung ribs. Nice bend of stifle and broad hindquarters. Moved well with a light true action, but could extend more.

2. HAWKINS’S KWARICOTT CHARISMA

Shapely powerful bitch. Rather wide in the head & I would prefer a darker eye. Feet OK. Nice front & rear conformation with great depth, spring & width of thigh. Good bend of stifle with nice low hocks. Moved well covering a lot of ground.

3. DOCKREE’S REGALFLIGHT KALIFI OF GORSEKREE

OPEN BITCH (7) (3)

1. BOND’S STAINLONAN BELLIS AT REGALFLIGHT (BB, RBIS, BOS)

Classic, shapely, old fashioned bitch with a pleasing head & expression, dark eye & OK ears. Correct harsh coat. Strong neck which can look upright when standing. Lovely front angulation with good feet & pasterns. Very good forechest and fill in. Excellent depth, spring and width throughout. Powerful hindquarters with super bend of stifle and sweep from hip to hock. Moved very soundly with plenty of drive, covering a lot of ground.

2. BARRETT’S STRANWITH ARIADNE

Different type of bitch and ideally would like a little bit more of her. Very attractive head and expression with dark eye and lovely small ears. Correct coat. Well knuckled feet. Good front and rear angulations. Lovely depth & spring of rib. Very good bend of stifle with well let down hocks. Moved with a light true action holding her topline well.

Specials

Firstly let me express my gratitude to the Deerhound Club for giving me the opportunity to act as referee at the above show and also to judge three classes of the breed after Best in Show. It was indeed an honour and a privilege.

My services as referee were required and on entry into the ring I could see why as both the exhibits were super examples of the breed. May I therefore take the opportunity to thank both the breed judges on their choices.

I found my Best of Breed in the 3 year old male Mrs J Wragg’s Neroche Irving. He excelled in breed type illustrating a masculine head and excellent angulation all through. His movement and overall balance won him his Best in Show position. Reserve Best in Show went to the super 3 year old female Mrs J Bond’s Stainlonan Bellis at Regalflight. She was not to be overlooked as she was in more coat than the winner and again exhibited lovely quality all through but on the last move around the ring lost out to the dog.

Class 17 Special Not Bred by Exhibitor ( 7 entries, 3 abs )

1st Peach’s Against All Odds at Kilbourne

3 year old dog of correct breed type. Lovely masculine head with correct bite. Strong neck leading into a well laid shoulder. Had a tendency to turn his right front foot out a little when standing. Correct topline. Super powerful hindquarters which he used to excellent effect when moving around the ring.

2nd Mrs B Seymour- Jackson’s Cassacre Aelfrida of Ghiltan

2 year old bitch who exhibited a classic feminine head. Dark eyes , high set ears and a correct bite.Well angulated front assembly, deep chest and correct topline. Good turn of stifle. Moved well.

Class 18 Special Bred by Exhibitor. ( 12 entries, 4 abs )

1st Miss K Barret’s Stranwith Ariadne

I loved this 2 year old bitch for her typical outline and femininity. Her beautiful head was enhanced by a lovely dark eye. She has an excellent put together front assembly, nice deep brisket and correct tuck up. Her balanced angulation in the rear gave her that easy and active movement with prerequisite drive which she exhibited so well on the move.

2nd Mrs H B and Dr S A F Helps Beardswood Quintessence

18 month old bitch of good quality. Typical head with dark eye and super ears supported by a strong neck without dewlap. Deep chest and well sprung ribs. Muscled hindquarters showing the correct turn of stifle. Good movement.

Class 19 Special New Members ( 1 entry 0 abs )

1st J Elsie’s Kilbourne Unity

12 month old bitch with plenty of promise. Feminine head. Long strong neck flowing into a well laid shoulder. Good length to upper arm. Super feet. Nice topline and underline. Correct proportions of ribcage to length of loin. Good hind angulation. Moved with reach and drive and should have a good future.
